Product Review: Beautiful Textures Tangle Tamer Leave-In

As promised in my Fresh Feature with Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner, here is the second installment of my review. Let's take a closer look at Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Leave-In Conditioner.... because I am absolutely in love.

Ingredient List: Aqua, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil/Olive Oil, Argania Spinosa Nut Oil/Argan Oil, Glycine Soja Oil/Soybean Oil, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconut Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Fruit/Shea Butter, Mangifera Indica Seed Butter/Mango Butter, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract/Rosemary Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract/Aloe Vera, Dimethicone, Panax Ginseng Root Extract/ Ginseng Extract, Polyquaternium 37, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Glycerin, DMDM Hydantoin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth 20, Polysorbate 20, Propylene Glycol, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Phenyl Trimethicone, CI 15985/Yellow 6, Parfum/Fragrance, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Coumarin, d-Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Lyral, Methyl Ionone Gamma.

Ingredient Analysis: (first 6)
  • Aqua: Water. I don't know why they just don't say water. Unless its alkalized, distilled, or otherwise different, water is water.
  • Olea Europea Fruit Oil (Olive Oil): Olive Oil is rich in high levels of mono-unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, which is good for hair growth. Both mono-unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E are good for moisturizing, protecting and nourishing hair. Olive oil makes hair grow stronger and its emollient properties prevent hair loss.
  • Agrania Spinosa Nut Oil (Argan Oil): Oil rich in vitamin E and contains omega 3 and omega 9 fatty acids that provide nutrition for hair. It also contains Linoleic and oleic acid that helps to hydrate and moisturize hair. Helps repair damaged follicles, imparts shine, and prevents frizz and rough ends.
  • Glycine Soja Oil (Soybean Oil): Carrier oil used to lubricate and nourish the hair, providing softness and shine. Note, that soybean oil does not penetrate the hair like other oils and therefore, does not moisturize.
  • Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut Oil): Oil high in saturated fats (which is why when cold, it is solid). One of the few known oils to penetrate the hair shaft and truly moisturize hair. Coconut oil helps to moisturize, seal, and prevent breakage.
  • Butyrospermum Parkii Fruit (Shea Butter): Emollient fat from the nut of the East or West African shea nut tree used to soften hair and aid in moisture retention.
Availability: Available at Sally's and other beauty supply chains nationwide.

Performance/Delivery: I won't lie to you. There may be more words on the bottle than product inside. I'm not exactly sure how a product for mixed texture hair (I figured this applied to my transitioner tresses) can guarantee defined curls and bouncy spirals. Some things just can't come from a bottle. BUT -- that doesn't mean to count this stuff out.  When applied to freshly washed hair, I do see a nice curl pattern emerge on my non-heat damaged hair. But of course, no bottle can revive what my flat iron destroyed. This product makes a great leave in/lotion to layer on hair after water (or even dry), and before sealing. I am hesitant to use it as a style setting capacity, without something thicker or heavier layered over it. I love the ingredients -- and the top oils and butters in this bottle definitely stack up against the claims of hydration, frizz-taming, and softness. I can't say that I saw any curl stretch or elongation while using this product, so don't be terribly concerned about losing your curl pattern if you decide to give it a try!

Drawbacks: For some reason beyond my capacity to understand, this product has synthetic fragrance and artificial color. It has a lovely mango-esque smell, and had I not known any better, I would assume it came from the #7 listed mango butter ingredient. The coloring is a very subtle peachy color that again, I don't understand the necessity for. Plenty of lotions and leave-ins are okay being milky white or some inconsistent color (like Shea Moisture's line). Luckily, both are low enough on the list of ingredients for me to not care that much. Just wanted to be truthful, for those of you that care about that kind of stuff :)

Bonuses: Did I mention that this is my new favorite detangler? Of all the uses for this stuff, I love it the most for detangling. It is magical -- I just lightly spritz my hair with water, and work a quarter-sized amount into each section. Whether with fingers or a comb, this product truly lives up to the title of Tangle Tamer. It's got enough good stuff to be a part of a pre-poo routine, and is light enough for a mid-week detangling session.

Bottom Line: I give Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Leave-In Conditioner the green light go ahead! If you're in the market for a new leave-in/lotion, or interested in a new detangler, I highly suggest giving this stuff a try. It's versatile, smells great, and won't burn a hole in your pocket. Plus, Sally's has an AWESOME return policy. So if you don't like it, just take it back....

Have you tried any Beautiful Textures products? How did you like them?

  1. Hey, thank you for this review. I appreciate it. I bought this leave in and the shampoo that goes with it tonight, but I was reluctant to put it on my hair after purchasing it. It's awesome to hear some good talk about this stuff! I bought it on a whim instead of giving in to a texturizer or perm. I've been natural for 4 years and sometimes I just get so frustrated when my hair isn't in braids or under a weave that I want to slip back into chemical land. This product stopped me and your review gave me some hope!

    1. I'm glad you liked the leave-in. I didn't care too much for the deep conditioner and the curl pudding products. #returnedtoSallys lol

  3. Years ago I tried the curl pudding and I wrote off Beautiful Textures. Recently tried the leave in and Moisture Butter and fell in love! The leave in is a great detangler and moisturizer.
