Small Business Spotlight: Crazy Natural, Inc.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on the Crazy Natural, Inc. products that were being shipped to me to sample. I've been really anxious to get this Small Business Spotlight going, and shine some light on brands that believe in making quality products with wholesome ingredients. I was really excited about Crazy Natural, because not only did the products line up with my expectations for the Small Business Spotlight, but they  aligned perfectly with the Beautiful Skin segment of the blog as well! There's plenty to cover in this post, so let's dive right in.

Crazy Natural, Inc. 100% Organic Glycerin Face Serum
There are three things I love about the Crazy Natural, Inc. line:
1. Wholesome, straightforward ingredients
2. The products have multiple uses
3. Everything on the website is affordable

This is especially true of the Glycerin Face Serum. The only ingredient in the serum is 100% organic glycerin. For two weeks straight, I applied the Glycerin Face Serum after washing my face in the morning. Not only was a dab enough to cover my entire face, it kept my face moisturized all day long. Glycerin is a wonderful humectant for hair; it works well on the skin, too. Check out my results:

Although the lighting is different, it is clearly noticeable (to me at least) that my skin tone is evening out, blemishes are lessening, and my face has a more youthful glow. And as ya'll know, I love anything youthful -- I'm 28, feel 24, and want to look 21. The Glycerin Face Serum is definitely helping in the "look" department! While many folks may have access to Glycerin at their local drugstore, I advocate for supporting small business -- hence this feature! On top of that, Crazy Natural's products are all 100% organic.

Crazy Natural Inc. 100% Organic Hair Bath & Body Oil
Love. Love. Love. I love me some peppermint/tea-tree scented oil, and this was RIGHT up my alley. The ingredients in this oil include:
  • Coconut Oil
  • Olive Oil: Excellent moisturizing plant oil. It can penetrate the hair's cortex, so it can make hair stronger, increase elasticity, and prevent protein loss.
  • Jojoba Oil: Emollient that. coats the hair shaft (its molecular structure prevents it from penetrating the cuticle) and aids in providing slip and protection
  • Sweet Almond Oil: Works great as a sealant, locking in moisture. It also nourishes hair, smoothes hair cuticles (shine), controls shedding, promotes hair growth and thickness, and helps prevent hair loss.
  • Rosemary Essential Oil: Known growth stimulant and extract, used to prevent dandruff and even premature baldness, as well as enhance highlights. The leaves are known to have relatively high levels of antioxidants.
  • Peppermint Essential Oil: Stimulates follicles and promotes hair growth.
How could you say no to that? I found myself using this oil for scalp massages, on rough skin patches, and even sometimes on my face at night. I can't say enough good things about this oil. It's lightweight, nourishing, stimulates growth, and has a wonderful invigorating scent.

Now on to my favorite part of this review -- the interview with Crazy Natural, Inc. creator: Sade Perkins. I so enjoyed this conversation. She's energetic, sweet, and thoughtful. Such a pleasure to interview her!

Christina: Let me first start off by thanking you for doing this interview, and for sending the Crazy Natural product samples. I really enjoyed them.

Sade: Not a problem. Thank you for the opportunity! Where are you calling from?

Christina: I'm in LA. What about you? Where are you based?

Sade: I'm in Houston.

Christina: Cool! I have some extended family out there. Well, let's get this thing going... I know you're a busy woman and I don't want to take up too much of your time. What inspired you to launch a natural body and haircare line?

Sade: Honestly, when I went natural about a year ago I realized that it wasn't necessarily harder to care for my hair, but the products are expensive. They're so expensive, for me at least. For example the cost of like, Miss Jessie's and some others are out of this world. And not everything is organic. I like organic ingredients, and that stuff tends to be even more expensive. So I felt like I'd rather make my own products that I know are going to work for my hair.

Christina: I can definitely understand that. Products are definitely expensive. Especially Miss Jessie's. What's the story behind the name "Crazy Natural"?

Sade: I just kinda thought of Crazy Natural on a whim; thinking about what would be the best name that represents my brand and reaches my target audience. I wanted it to represent us, which is why I picked the afro woman logo. Although anyone can use my products, not just necessarily Black women. Not picking on Miss Jessie's or anything, but if you look at the label it doesn't stand out as a natural product. I wanted it to be clear that my line was something for us, by us.

Christina: I know all of your products are handmade, which is awesome. What is your favorite product to make and why?

Sade: My favorite to make would probably be the Shea Body Butter. I use it for EVERYTHING -- my hair, my skin, you know, just everything. It's all purpose. Its also one of the easiest things to make.

Christina: Ooh that sounds wonderful. By the way, I love the Glycerin Face Serum. I know a lot of naturals use glycerin for their hair. When did you decide to start promoting it as a face serum?

Sade: Umm, basically by experimenting and trying out different things to see which would work best. It makes the skin supple, helps with breakouts, and brings out a natural glow. Just don't put on too much, or it will be sticky and kind of oily. Really, a pea-sized amount is enough. And you can immediately tell that it's different from any of the typical oils like jojoba. It's also an alternative sweetener for diabetics.

Christina: Really? I didn't know that.

Sade: Yeah, I always do a lot of research whenever I'm putting together products. I learn so many things about a lot of oils and ingredients I use, and I find that most of them are all-purpose, and really good for everything. Like coconut oil for body, hair, and cooking. The glycerin as a sweetener, hair and skin product...I just love when things are good for this, that, and everything else. It's exciting. I love making my own products!

Christina: I love multi-purpose stuff too. It saves a lot of money. What is your most popular selling product?

Sade: The shampoo and conditioner as a pair. I hear a lot of good news about the shampoo as a really good detangler. It's really good for all hair types, has a lot of natural oils, and is good for replenishing. Once again, the duo is a really great all-around set of products for an affordable price.

Christina: That sounds like something I want to try out! What sets Crazy Natural apart from other natural body and haircare brands?

Sade: First and foremost, my affordability factor is the number one thing to set me apart. The fact that all my products are organic and affordable. Second is that my products work -- and it's not just me saying that. Word of mouth is my most powerful tool -- to have all these people saying all these positive things about my products, I couldn't ask for anything more. People may be hesitant to spend $10 on a shampoo, but that word of mouth makes the difference. My ongoing thing is to always bring quality products that are affordable and multi-purpose.

Christina: Any new products on the horizon for Crazy Natural, Inc.?

Sade: I want to do a shampoo, something like a Black Soap Bodywash Shampoo...and just continue to build on the products I already have. And to keep getting the word out.

Christina: That sounds really good. My readers are all across the country, and the world. Are you making any appearances with the Crazy Natural brand at any meetups or events soon?

Sade: I will be at two upcoming events. On June 1st, I will be at the Naturally Glamorous event in Greensboro, North Carolina. On June 22nd, I will be in Houston, Texas at the Women's Health Expo at Reliant Stadium. I will have my products at both events!

Christina: Awesome! Any last hair or skincare advice for readers?

Sade: Hmm...I would say to cowash weekly, shampoo once or twice a month. Basically, keep your scalp clean. It has helped my hair growth, I've seen a lot of growth this year. Hopefully, as hair grows my business will grow also! (laughing)

Christina: That's good advice. Thank you so much for the interview, Sade. Much success to you and the Crazy Natural, Inc. brand!

Sade: Thank you so much!
