Review & Demo: As I Am Long and Luxe Collection Part 2

As I Am Long and Luxe Collection Review
The Long & Luxe Collection from As I Am was designed to aid in growth and length retention.
Let's keep this review train rolling! If you missed part 1 of the review where I discussed the shampoo, conditioner, and co-wash, click here to catch up.

In this part 2, I'll be deep diving into the GroYogurt Leave-In Conditioner, Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and Scalp Serum. And guess what?! Yep, another video! This time around, I used Long and Luxe products to create another easy, cold weather friendly natural hair style, remixing my curly go to - the wash & go. I stepped a weeeeee bit out of my comfort zone (and skill set if we're honest), to bring this style to life.

So sit back, relax, sip on something warm, and let's dive in!

As I Am Long and Luxe Collection Review
If you like the OG leave-in (brown label), you'll definitely want to try this.
Active Ingredients
  • Water
  • Glycerin: Vegetable-based humectant that draws in moisture to the hair.
  • Aloe Vera Juice: Acts as a natural conditioning agent that restores the hair's sheen, luster, and shine. It not only makes the hair soft, but it also enhances strength and suppleness.
  • Pomegranate Fruit Juice: Widely known as an anti-aging, antioxidant powerhouse, pomegranate juice protects the outer layer of the skin (scalp), facilitating cell regeneration and tissue repair. Pomegranate juice is also able to penetrate and treat dry skin, soothing and repairing dry, cracked, and irritated skin. It also strengthens the hair follicles and improves circulation at the scalp to encourage hair growth.
  • Cetearyl and Cetyl Alcohol: Considered "fatty alcohol" -- NOT to be confused with drying alcohols such as ethyl. Acts as a lubricant, thickener, and emollient. Also gives conditioner its velvety feel without making hair greasy. Is additionally used to keep product ingredients from separating.
  • Passion Fruit Juice: Rich in Vitamins A and C, iron, potassium, and proteins. This nitrient-packed juice works as an anti-inflammatory - rejuvenating the follicles to help combat hair loss.
  • Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein: Protein extracted from the seeds of the lupine plant which contain nearly 50% essential amino acids.
Protein Free?
No. Contains Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein and Hydrolyzed Keratin.

Curly Girl Friendly?
No. Contains propoxy tetramethyl piperidinyl dimethicone (albeit at the bottom of the list).

The Good
I just wanna go on record saying that I LOVE the GroYogurt. Of everything in the Long and Luxe collection, it's easily one of my must-try products. GroWash and GroYogurt are most definitely my jams! If you're a fan of the OG As I Am Leave-In Conditioner (which I am), you'll definitely like the GroYogurt, The consistencies are similar, with a slight slippery edge going to the GroYogurt. The GroYogurt softens, has tons of slip for detangling, strengthens, and moisturizes. It plays incredibly well with not only the Curl Enhancing Smoothie, but the As I Am Smoothing Gel (which I used in the video), and plenty of other stylers in my stash.

A good leave-in is always supposed to help minimize frizz, add shine, soften, and really help capture your natural curl pattern. GroYogurt does all this, plus with the added benefit of strengthening the hair and helping to prevent breakage.

Wash & go with a twist!
The Bad
As I mentioned in part 1, the entire line carries that tropical, juicy, pomegranate fragrance, and that it's stronger in some products than others. Unfortunately, the fragrance to me is strong in the GroYogurt Leave-In Conditioner. Is it allergy triggering? No. Does it linger? Yes, but not all day or to the point where I've given myself a headache or my eyes started itching (yes, this has happened to me before with other products). The fragrance is a wee bit on the stronger side, but not unbearable.

The Bottom Line
Like I said before - if you're a fan of the OG As I Am Leave-In, then you've gotta give GroYogurt a try. If you're looking for a slippy leave-in, or to reap some longer lasting strengthening benefits, I recommend giving it a whirl!

Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Cost
$10.99 for 16oz

  • Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil: Carrier oil used to lubricate and nourish the hair, providing softness and shine.
  • Castor Oil: Thick, highly viscous oil with antibacterial, antifungal, and humectant properties. It is also a great moisture sealant, and promotes hair thickening and growth.
  • Cetearyl Alcohol: Considered "fatty alcohol" -- NOT to be confused with drying alcohols such as ethyl. Acts as a lubricant, thickener, and emollient. Also gives conditioner its velvety feel without making hair greasy. Is additionally used to keep product ingredients from separating.

The Good
First things first, let's clear the air. Yes, the Long and Luxe Curl Enhancing Smoothie bears the same name as another brand. However, the differences between the two products couldn't be more stark. I tried for years to make my hair like Shea Moisture's version, but my results were always tragic. But this bad boy right here? I rock with it. It's thick (in the video I turn the jar upside down and NOTHING moves), rich, but not impossible to work with. It penetrates beautifully into my hair, without leaving a super greasy after-feel.

The Curl Enhancing Smoothie fragrance is lighter than the GroYogurt, which I appreciate. Almost about as much as I appreciate 16oz of product where a little goes a long way. The Curl Enhancing Smoothie delivers a light to moderate hold. It can definitely be used on its own, but my preferred combination is in conjunction with a leave-in and gel (as shown in this video). Curl Enhancing Smoothie does a great job of moisturizing the hair, leaving it soft and shiny.

The Bad
The only drawback I found to Curl Enhancing Smoothie is that I can't use it as a leave-in. Typically, when I come across curl creams and smoothies, I swap my leave-in out and go on with the gel. I didn't care much for my results with just the two products. But the GroYogurt + Curl Enhancing Smoothie + Smoothing Gel? Straight fire. I mean, just look at those curls! (Minus my frizzy middle patch of course).

The Bottom Line
If you're looking for a twist-out cream, "C" for your LOC or LCO method, or a creamy product that plays nicely with gels, you'll definitely want to give Curl Enhancing Smoothie a try. And for 16oz of product at that?!

My best flat twists, to date. Can y'all tell I been practicing?
Protein Free?
No. Contains Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein and Hydrolyzed Keratin.

Curly Girl Friendly?
No. Contains propoxy tetramethyl piperidinyl dimethicone (albeit at the bottom of the list).

The Good
First things first - the Scalp Serum is different. Like, nothing I've ever seen. Most of the time, when thinking about anything for the scalp, it's an oil, mist, or sometimes a grease-like product. Never in a million years did I expect to open the Scalp Serum bottle and find a milky white product. That said, the Scalp Serum is incredibly lightweight, and absorbs right into the scalp without interfering with the products already in the hair.

What I also found interesting is that it's more of a targeted formula than a daily maintenance product. Meaning, it's designed to work best on affected areas where breakage and thinning may be an issue. I've been doing a fairly decent job at keeping both at bay (especially with this darn scalp psoriasis), so I can't speak with certainty to its effectiveness. But the ingredient profile is unique and amazing - containing proteins, caffeine, biotin, saw palmetto, pumpkin seed oil, and other ingredients with proven benefits to strengthen, regrow, and combat hair loss.

The Bad
Because I haven't used the product long enough (several months), I can't say there's anything bad about it. Scalp and skin products take longer than hair products to demonstrate their effectiveness. So the jury is out - but for now, no downfalls.

The Bottom Line
If you're looking for something to stop itching and flakes, this ain't it. What the scalp serum is for, though? Strengthening those roots. If you're planning on getting a protective style, you'll want Scalp Serum to help ward off any damage. If you've experienced hair loss or thinning, this may be a solution for your woes. It's considerably less expensive than some other treatments - which makes it well worth a try!

  5. Cool cosmetics, you know, I read your review and it's just art. I love reading articles like this because I learn a lot from them. Recently I tried to write an artistic essay and I didn’t succeed, I found a good site with examples ( https://papersowl.com/examples/art/ ) and they helped me. After reading your article, I want to try to write something similar, I have experience, but I don’t know what to write about. I understand that now in the world there is one or a couple of topics on which you can write an article, but I do not want to touch on them.
