Who's with me? :::Looks around::: ....crickets chirp...
That's cool, ya'll don't have to join me.
This week, I decided I would give myself a challenge: going natural for two months. From this week all the way up until my birthday (May 17th), I will send my hot tools into hiding. No pressing combs, no curling irons, no flat irons, no blowdryer... nothing. I'm super excited to give my hair the chance to just "be" in its natural state, and I'm juiced to see how much I can grow and retain.
So...what exactly am I going to do with my hair for two months? Yeahhh... I'm still trying to figure that part out. I just recently clipped/dusted my ends (I will post a blog about that later), so I want to prevent as many return split-ends as possible. Of course, that means a lot of protective styling. Ugh. I cringe at the mere thought of the phrase. For those of you foreign to the concept, protective styling is meant to do exactly what it sounds like -- protect your hair from damage through low or no manipulation and tucking in hair ends. To me, protective styling meant one of two things -- either a bun, or big chunky plantation plaits. I'm sorry, my head is entirely too big for a bun. And no disrespect to my ancestors, but there is no way I'm taking that trip back in time.
Three days into my commitment, I refused to go out like that. So what did I do? Look for cute natural hair styles online, duh! As I chronicle my 2 month journey (that hopefully results in 2+ inches of hair!), I will be sure to post pictures and instructions of whatever cute hairstyles I am able to successfully execute.
I stumbled upon The KG Lifestyle's YouTube channel, and found a tutorial for a cute protective updo that required minimal prep, work, manipulation, and materials. Sound too good to be true? Check it out:
Seems simple enough right? All you need is:
Got any cute protective style ideas? I want them ASAP! Please don't let me get caught out there rocking a bun or some braids!!!

Disclaimer: Please take all hair tutorials and product reviews with a grain of salt, and be sure to pay attention to the capabilities and limitations of your own hair. I made the mistake of watching a tutorial video on getting twisted corkscrew curls, and because my hair lacked the tight coils necessary, I ended up with a jheri-curl looking nightmare. So you've been warned. Try this at home at your own risk :-)
