Christina's Choice 2014: Moisturizers

best-moisturizers-natural-hair

Geez Lorraine, where did the time go?! I promise just 5 minutes ago it was Christmas Eve. Now here we are, on the precipice of a new year! So let's close this thing on out just right: with my top picks for moisture! I'm more of a conditioner junkie, so selecting my favorite moisturizers wasn't really hard. I just opened my drawer and looked at the products that I kept in supply throughout the year, and those that I pounced to re-up on during sales. Here are my picks:

Best of the Best

Camille Rose Naturals Curl Love Moisture Milk
Curl Love Moisture Milk showed me some MAJOR love in 2014, so it's only right that it land on this list. You'll have to lift weights at the gym 3 times a week to be able to squeeze this stuff out of a bottle, but that extra rich thickness is a part of its charm. The ingredients are phenomenal, and it is one of the few moisturizers that keeps wash and go curls plump and juicy instead of making them stringy when used to refresh and add moisture. It has avocado and rice bran oils in the top five ingredients, which translates into major love for my hair. Simply put, Curl Love Moisture Milk is life in a bottle. Curl Love Moisture Milk Review

TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer
TGIN strikes again! Seriously, I think TGIN earns a top spot in every Christina's Choice category. No, they're not paying me either. I seriously think TGIN is one of the best all-around brands out there. And their Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer is proof of that. It's thick, rich and creamy without being greasy, while coating and penetrating the hair beautifully. I love a good moisturizer that packs a punch while not weighing my hair down. Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer does just that, while being one of those moisturizers that also makes my curls pop. Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer is one of TGIN's most popular products, and for good reason. I highly recommend it for transitioners as well! TGIN Moist Collection Product Review

Soultanicals Fluffalicious Curl Nutricious
I fell in love with Soultanicals on the whole and especially Fluffalicious as a transitioner. I was in need of a moisturizer that packed a punch, while keeping the line of demarcation hydrated and strong to prevent breakage. Fluffalicious Curl Nutricious totally fit that bill. It's super creamy in the jar (although thinner than its moisturizing counterparts), but goes on the hair sooooo lightweight. Even now with my completely natural hair, Fluffalicious Curl Nutricious remains a favorite that I always stock up on (especially since Ayo and the Soultanicals team made 16oz jars available) whenever Soultanicals has a sale. Speaking of which, they're running a 50% off sale through 12/31/14 at midnight! Use code customerlove50 at check out! Soultanicals Afro-Vegan Hair Care Review

Pura Body Naturals Sapote Hair Lotion
I'll be the first to admit -- I love me some Sapote Hair Lotion. I got hipped to Pura Body Naturals when I did my Small Business Series -- and have been a fan ever since. I make sure I grab Sapote Hair Lotion during their annual BOGO Free holiday sale. Sapote Hair Lotion is just...different. It's a lightweight moisturizer that keeps my hair hydrated and soft without weighing it down, and the ingredient profile is pretty amazing. I always like to let folks know -- if you're not a fan of shea butter, check out Pura Body Naturals. All of their products are shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil-free, and formulated with exotic Amazonian ingredients like sapote oil, cupuacu butter, and muru muru butter.

Honorable Mentions

TreLuxe Curl Supreme Styling Cream
TreLuxe's Curl Supreme Styling Cream is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, but I can't quite put it on my HG list yet. Not because the product did anything wrong, but I just feel like I need to spend more time with it. I got my hands on it in early September, so in comparison to the other moisturizers on this list (who have at least a year in the game), I just feel like I need another couple of months with it, ya know? But on to why I am loving Curl Supreme. Not only does it smell heavenly, but it is amazingly rich with tons of slip. Yes, a moisturizer with slip. Hallelujah! Like its moisturizing peers, it imparts hydration and softness without weighing my hair down. But what separates Curl Supreme Styling Cream from the pack is the unique 360 Curl Complex with tomato fruit ferment extract. Want to know more about what that special curl complex does? SDotBeauty Creme Fraiche Hair Pudding Cream
If I won't call Curl Supreme Styling Cream a HG, then I most certainly can't put Creme Fraiche on the list. I literally got this stuff like two weeks ago. Even in the short time I've had it, I have grown to appreciate it as a power-packed botanical moisturizer with tons of slip and shine. It's in the wash and go that I'm wearing as I type this list. I want to have more good things to say about it, but I honestly just need more time. Give me another few weeks to churn out a review, but just know -- good things definitely come in SDot packages!
