In The Meantime... Length Check!

Check in: January to May 2012
Of all the challenges of transitioning to natural hair, the most angst-ridden experience (for me) is the time between length checks. Since I began my No Heat Challenge in March, I have committed myself to only flat-ironing my hair once every three months. When I first started, I didn't know how I was going to make it. when my May length check showed me all that I could ever hope for and then some, I realized this journey wasn't going to be that bad after all. But without fail, somewhere dead in the middle of the three month stretch, I get antsy. I get anxious. I start psyching myself out with questions like "what if my hair isn't growing as much?", or "what if my hair is actually shorter or thinner than last time?". It can get pretty nerve wrecking.

To soothe myself, and re-affirm that I am headed in the right direction, I performed a mid-month length check. The results were far from disappointing. Just to recap:

  • Early April 2012: I chopped off nearly two inches of dead ends, and my hair was approximately 10.5 - 11 inches (I measure the longest layers/back)
  • Mid May 2012: My hair was 12 inches long before my heat straightening
  • July 19th, 2012: Check for yourself!!!
Just about 14 inches!
This was just the pick-me-up I needed to put a little extra pep in my step. How often do you do length checks?
